Mobile Access Point Launch
Eager jobseekers take advantage of local Mobile Access Point

On Wednesday, August 26, 2009, WorkSource held a public event to launch its Mobile Access Point strategy in Duval County at Edward Waters College. Duval County’s unemployment rate hit 11.2% for July 2009, and the Mobile Access Point strategy was designed to deliver services to parts of the urban core where transportation and educational attainment are among factors that contribute to higher unemployment rates.

WorkSource will host their final Virtual Job Fair for 2009 the week October of 12-16th. With Jacksonville’s unemployment rate at 10.5% as of July 2009, attending a virtual job fair is another way for jobseekers to get noticed in this tough economy.

Florida’s August Unemployment Figures
“Nearly unchanged” from the July rate

Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for August 2009 is 10.7 percent. This represents 984,000 jobless out of a labor force of 9,194,000. The unemployment rate is nearly unchanged from the revised July rate of 10.8 percent and is up 4.2 percentage points from the August 2008 rate.
