Senator LeMieux, speaks words of encouragement to a job seeker using the Gateway Resource Room. On Friday, January 29th, Senator George LeMieux visited the Gateway Career Center. He met with staff for a detailed discussion of WorkSource services. Senator LeMieux toured the Gateway Career Center and resource room and talked with a job seeker about his job search.

Over 250 participants got tips to help them stand out from the crowd in today's tough labor market. On February 9th, WorkSource joined forces with Monster and the University of North Florida to provide a free “Power Seeker” workshop. The workshop was held at the University Center at the University of North Florida with over 250 people in attendance. Monster provided their expert staff of speakers, who had over 9 years of experience in recruiting. The speakers provided information about job searching hot topics and answered burning questions. Job seekers who attended the workshop received information on a variety of topics, including:

Tonya Chieves, takes advantage of the free tax preparation byTax prep volunteer, Elissa Jones The Real$ense Prosperity Campaign and WorkSource have teamed up again for the 2010 tax season. Together, they will offer free tax preparation for low to moderate income individuals at various WorkSource locations throughout the six county region. These tax sites are staffed by IRS-trained volunteers, many of whom are WorkSource employees. All tax sites will offer free tax preparation by trained tax volunteers and will be open until April 15th, 2010. To avoid long waiting times, make sure you call the career center front desk to schedule your appointment.

Entrepreneurial Opportunities in Healthcare
University of North Florida

The University of North Florida, in partnership with WorkSource is offering 150 scholarships for the Entrepreneurial Opportunities in Healthcare course. The three-day course will cover the following: Day One: Basics of entrepreneurial management. We will review basic business principles including discovering unmet market needs, competition and strategy, financial management, and sales and marketing.
