Business Warning: Crime Ring Operating in NE Wisconsin

This information is being sent to you because you're a Wisconsin BBB Accredited Business:

October 1, 2009 -- The Wisconsin BBB has been alerted by a bank security group that small businesses in Northeast Wisconsin are being targeted by a group of individuals that are stealing blank checks, forging them and attempting to cash them at the banks from which they were drawn. The individuals are using fake IDs to perpetrate this fraud, and have stolen more than $97,000, to date.

The suspects in this crime ring are described as Hispanic males. These forged checks have been cashed in Appleton, Neenah, Plymouth, Sheboygan, Kiel, Green Bay, St. Nazianz, Wausau, Oshkosh, Ashwaubenon, West Bend, and Menasha.

The Wisconsin BBB warns business owners to be very careful with their business checks. Lock them up and limit access to them. Also, be on the lookout and suspicious of any people posing as customers, vendors, etc. that may be "casing" their business. If anyone is suspicious of someone, or has been a victim of theft, please contact the local police department.
