About EnterpriseWorks Worldwide: EnterpriseWorks Worldwide is a non-profit organization that promotes sustainable, business-based solutions to poverty in the developing world.

When I first got to Iringa I asked to see a treadle pump in action, so EWW took me to see a farmer who had purchased a pump long ago. When we pulled up I saw the farmer standing on his pump, treadling away, while his co-worker sprayed an unbelievable amount of water over the soil. The farmer lept from his pump and started showing off his plot, telling us about the changes the pump had made. The original size of his plot was barely a quarter its new size, and he was already growing his second harvest when his neighbor's first crop had barely started to dry.
