Opening Doors to the Center for Business Excellence
Message from the President, Rick Fraser
As I travel throughout Volusia and Flagler Counties, I’m often asked, “What does the Workforce Development Board do?”
Even as President of the organization for several years, I still have to stop and collect my thoughts before I respond. Not because I don’t know the answer, but because our organization has grown to meet so many core needs in our region, that the answer is no longer a simple one.
In short, we are in existence to meet the recruitment, employment, and training needs of our local business community. In order to effectively meet these needs, a service system, known as the One-Stop Career System, was created to prepare individuals of all skill and experience levels for the local job market. Since its inception in 1996, the system has grown to become a core employment resource to over 21,000 individuals per year, by working in partnership with 40 agencies and 1,400 businesses from multiple industries.
Several years ago, our Board of Directors realized that in order to truly align our workforce development initiatives, our focus must be on meeting the needs of current and new businesses. As a result, the services we offer and the organizational goals to which we aspire are in place to create an effective, cost-saving resource to our business community.
On June 13th, our organization formally relocated its operations and changed its name to the Center for Business Excellence. The move and the name change is part of a plan to enhance the organization’s operations, and to more clearly define our organization’s purpose to our local business community. The Board proudly celebrated the facility’s grand opening and its significance at a ribbon cutting event on September 29th .
As the new Center for Business Excellence, we will remain dedicated to doing whatever it takes to assist the workforce and business community to continually raise the bar in Flagler and Volusia Counties. Our task is as it’s always been, but now our name clearly states our purpose. We are now well on the road to becoming the area’s #1 resource for business and we are committed to excellence.
