Central Florida's unemployment rate remains steady at 5.1% for April 2002. Central Florida counties range between 5.3% in Orange County to 4.1% in Sumter County, all below the national rate of 5.7%. For Central Florida, that translates to 51,375 unemployed and 966,420 employed residents.
Areas with higher unemployment rates in Florida include Miami (7.3%), Ft. Lauderdale (5.7%), West Palm Beach , Ft. Pierce and Panama City (all at 5.2%). Gainesville is currently at 2.4%, the lowest rate in the state.
