WBCS 2006 Mentor Project
by Royalyn B. Reid, Reid Consulting Solutions

The Women's Business Council - Southwest (WBCS) offers many outstanding programs to assist WBEs in developing and growing their businesses. One of the programs that stand out as premier is the WBCS Mentor Project. I began the program as a mentee in February 2006. During the introductions at the kick-off event, I was personally touched to hear each mentor share, in her own words, why she was volunteering her time to the program: Every mentor explained she wanted to give back to a fellow WBE a portion of what she received from the Council. Another thing these ladies had in common is they owned successful businesses and were very busy. I knew I was in the right place!

I was assigned a great mentor, Sue Murray of EduCorp Training & Consulting, Inc. I quickly learned I had a good match. Our main line of business complimented one another, but more importantly, we shared similar philosophies in business integrity and excellence. Sue and I have met on a regular basis since the program started. Sue has provided expert advice and direction, referred me to strategic contacts, and introduced me to her staff and made them available to answer questions in their areas of expertise. She has made herself available to respond to my e-mails and phone calls in a timely manner. I have also gleaned from Sue's knowledge and experience as a seasoned WBCS member.

My participation as a mentee in the WBCS 2006 Mentor Project has been a very productive and rewarding experience. My company is stronger and much better as a result of my involvement. I highly recommend this program to all WBEs whose businesses are on the right track but feel they could benefit from the support of a successful, seasoned WBE.
