ACE Committee Formed
Special Group Works for WBEs
by Jim Schultz

The ACE Committee was created in January 2004 to better serve the WBE members of the Council in the Architecture, Construction and/or Engineering (ACE) industries. The committee’s focus is two-fold:

The first initiative is to provide a platform for women businesses to access opportunities which are specific to the construction industry and receive education concerning bidding, insurance requirements, bonding and general proposal requirements. The second initiative is to educate local general contractors and corporations about the capabilities of our 75 ACE members.

If you are a WBE member in the Architecture, Construction and/or Engineering industries, you will continue to receive information on the ACE Committee’s upcoming plans/functions. The committee is working on:

• Providing access to the Association of General Contractors (AGC) course called "The Basic", starting in June, which provides guidelines for operating a small business in the construction industry. Sustaining Members, Fluor and TXU are donating four scholarships for ACE members who are interested in attending.

• Representing the ACE Members on the advisory board for Texas Instruments Wafer Fabrication Project in the Richardson and Plano area.

• Creating a more visible presence at the Construction MBE Showcase in August.

• Addressing the needs and concerns of ACE members.
