Commission on National and Community Service

The mission of the New Jersey Commission on National and Community Service is to guide and support New Jersey’s AmeriCorps and Learn and Serve America programs, promote an ethic of service for citizens of all ages and backgrounds, and strengthen communities through service in the areas of education, human needs, environmental protection, disaster response, and homeland security. Volunteering is an important resource across a broad range of issues
Focus on children and youth will generate greatest support across the state.
Federal programs such as AmeriCorps and the Senior Service Corps are generally well known (above 75%)
Volunteer Centers and key programs of the Governor’s Office of Volunteerism (conferences, award programs) have less recognition (below 50%)
The New Jersey Governor’s Office of Volunteerism can help by encouraging volunteerism among youth, businesses, and retirees and providing access to volunteer matching databases.
