What's So Special about our New Location?
mailto:robbins@viab.org
by Ralph Robbins
On June 1, the Virginia Israel Advisory Board moved to a new location in Reston, Virginia. I sent my new address to my email list. Within the hour, one of my colleagues zapped back an email with the message: “Very cute… I know why you moved.” That really peaked my curiosity, so I asked him to explain, and couldn’t help smiling at the answer: “It’s obvious why you moved to ‘1800 Alexander Bell Drive’, he wrote. Eighteen (18) stands for ‘Chai’ in the Hebrew alphabet, which means ‘good luck’. So you moved to that address so you’ll have ‘luck’ 100 times over.” That got me thinking… since I moved, the stock market seems to have turned around with a new upward momentum, another Israeli company opened an office in my building, and my daughter announced to the world that I will become a grandfather in another six months. Guess I can’t deny reality… “1800” does have a lot of luck associated with it! Note: In the next newsletter, Israeli companies will read many other reasons why “1800 Alexander Bell Dr., Reston, Virginia 20191” makes a great location for a US entry point and/or office.

Critical Biodefense Event Set for June 22...Still time to Participate
Israeli Companies Invited to Participate in Virginia Event
http://www.viab.org/GMU/gmu.htm
Ken Alibek, MD, PhD, the world expert on Bioterrorism and the Executive Director of George Mason University’s “Center for Biodefense” announced today that a Special International Event, “Accelerating Solutions to Bioterrorism”, will take place in Virginia on June 22, the day before Bio2003 kicks off in Washington DC. An elite group of international companies will participate in this exclusive gathering of leaders.
“This special event could create corporate business opportunities on a global scale. Since Israeli companies are among the world leaders in Biodefense, I will be delighted to see a large turnout of Israeli companies.” Dr. Ken Alibek
According to Dr. Alibek, this will be a unique opportunity for Israeli companies to meet other international and US companies in their same arena. The event concentrates on “biological weapons in the areas of detection, prophylaxis, and treatment. This may include companies that are capable of manufacturing protective products, or for developing drug treatment for infectious diseases. Alibek adds: “Both the US and Israel have exceptional capabilities to approach the unsolved terrorism threats. We must collaborate in order to accelerate the solutions. That’s what this event is all about.”
The special event will be a closed event limited to 100 of the elite in the field. Companies must submit an application, which will be reviewed by a committee at the National Center for Biodefense. There is no fee to participate in this special event and transportation will be provided from Washington, DC.

Mentoring Program Offers Business Advice to Israeli Companies
Seasoned Pros in Virginia Available to Help
by Fred Diamond
VIAB Executive Director Ralph Robbins announced that the VIAB is developing a "business mentor" program. The program will feature a bank of business experts with 25 or more years of practical experience in business that will be available to help Israeli companies looking to move to Virginia. The VIAB will match Israeli companies that have an office and/or will establish presence in Virginia with mentors.
The program will offer free and confidential business advice and mentoring to executives in emerging Israeli companies. Volunteers work with Israeli companies looking to enter the US market and perhaps pursue business with the US Government. The mentors are available to help through various phases of their market entry: generating and assessing ideas, giving pointers for preparing a business plan, making suggestions on raising capital and managing the operations and finances of the growing venture, for example. Robbins points out, however: "This is no free ride. Companies have to be comitted and will have to do the follow-through work. The mentors are available to provide critical assistance, such as locating marketing contacts. "The mentors will open their extensive networks to the right companies. But the companies will have to go after the contracts either by themselves or through hired professionals.

Truth or Lie: It’s not what you say but how you say it
V, the new North American reseller of Israeli-based Nemesysco’s truth detector, finds its U.S. home in Virginia
by Alisa Valudes
From catching terrorists and screening passengers at U.S. airports to analyzing high profile crime cases, to helping law enforcement interrogate suspects and to detecting incidences of financial fraud, there’s a new company named V who knows the value of telling the truth. With the stakes higher than they’ve ever been in a post-9/11 world, the U.S. government is focused on evaluating and implementing new technologies that will enhance homeland security to make America a safer place.
Founded seven years ago by a developer in Israel named Amir Liberman, the technology was developed in Israel to help counter terrorism. In August 2000, Liberman founded a company named Nemesysco to further develop the technology. This summer, Nemesysco’s technology will be available for the first time to the North American market through its exclusive reseller - a new company named V.
