Leading Virginia Tech and State Officials participated. Leading businessmen participated. The Secretary of Commerce for the State of Virginia, Michael Schewel, participated. All of this demonstrates commitment.

Investors Talk About 'Great Potential'
by Fred Diamond

Zohar Zisapel, Chairman, Rad Group In his inspiring lunchtime keynote at the VITAL Summit, RAD Group Chairman Zohar Zisapel noted that Israeli companies were often created in response to Israel’s need to be creative in solving the country’s unique challenges in the area of security, vehicle safety, and communications, for example. The high-tech companies that presented at the Summit exemplified Israel’s renowned self-reliance, creativity, and scientific application. The investor community was impressed by what the Israeli entrepreneurs had to show. The large number of meetings that happened after each company presented confirmed this.

High-tech, software, and services companies were well represented at the VITAL Summit in Roanoke. As expected, the entrepreneurs presented a wide range of solutions at the event that intrigued, impressed, and motivated the Virginia investment community.

“I saw a good number of solid companies that had great potential for expansion to the US markets. The (follow up) meetings after each presentation provided the best way to understand the goals of the Israeli organizations and their specific capabilities,” said Phil Garfinkle, President, Navig8, Great Falls, VA. “There were some ‘gems’ that had great potential for long term business success. The VITAL conference was a great way to see which ones could be polished up, focused, and positioned for success in the US and worldwide markets.”

Attendees were very impressed with the level of innovation coming out of Israel. "In talking to the companies, I am impressed in how far Israeli companies have come in recognizing that great science is not enough, but that they need to project science into real products that can be profitably manufactured, developed and marketed on a global basis,” said Gary Gamerman, President, Seraphim Life Sciences Consulting LLC. Seraphim, with office in Virginia and the United Kingdom, provides consulting, business development and due diligence for life science companies and investors in the US and worldwide.

Israelis Seek Possible Investors
(Originally published October 18, 2002 in the Roanoke Times)
by Paul Dellinger

Some 25 high-tech Israeli companies pitched their products Thursday to potential investors in a daylong session at Hotel Roanoke.

If some of them attract venture capital, they could end up launching U.S. companies in the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center in Blacksburg, which they visited Wednesday. Their three-day visit culminated in strictly timed 15-minute presentations on the products they hope to produce and sell in this country. They were chosen from some 200 Israeli companies, pared down to 60 for interviews to choose those who would make the trip.

Israeli Companies invited to Special June 22 Event

GMU’s National Center for Biodefense turns to Israel Israeli Companies invited to Special June 22 Event

Ken Alibek, MD, Ph.d., the Director of the National Center for Biodefense, announced today that he hopes a number of leading Israeli companies will participate in a Special event: “Accelerating Solutions to Bioterrorism”.  The event will be held at the Center For Innovative Technology on June 22, the day prior to the opening of Bio2003 in Washington DC.

According to Dr. Alibek, this will be a unique opportunity for Israeli companies to meet other international and US companies in their same arena.   The Center and the event concentrate on “biological weapons in the areas of detection, prophylaxis, and treatment.  This may include companies that are capable of manufacturing protective products, or for developing drug treatment for infectious diseases.   “We both have exceptional talents to approach the unsolved terrorism threats.  We must collaborate in order to accelerate the solutions.  That’s what this event is all about.”

Congressman Jim Saxton will be the keynote speaker.  Saxton is the Chairman of the newly created House Terrorism, Unconventional Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee in the new 108th Congress.  According to Saxton, “There are very few persons worldwide with the expertise in the subject that Ken Alibek has.”

The special event will be a closed event limited to 100 of the elite in the field.  Companies must submit an application, which will be reviewed by a committee at the National Center for Biodefense.  The event is complimentary.  Complimentary transportation will also be provided from Washington, DC.
