I was part of a four-person delegation from Virginia that returned from Israel two weeks ago. We were warned ahead of time that it wasn’t a good time to go to Israel. We thought it was and we were right. We went to prepare for the VITAL (Virginia Israel Tech Alliance) Summit that takes place on October 16-17, which is when we will officially launch the VITAL program. We accomplished a lot on the trip: we participated in 65 business presentations, visited the Technion to discuss cooperative agreements, visited the Vulcani Institute to explore potential agricultural research with Virginia Tech, and met with key business leaders. It was a very successful and rewarding trip.
Based on what we saw, we came away convinced that the VITAL Summit (

VC’s will learn about new technologies presented by young (post incubator) Israeli companies seeking a foothold in the US through the proven infrastructure of the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center. Some of these technologies are quite amazing…

· Green Clouds which produces superfine aerosol droplets only one micron in diameter with applications ranging from agricultural produce life extension to homeland defense applications.
· Mylernet which has internet based customer relations management software that can reduce online customer call times by 50% while increasing customer satisfaction.
· SatSmart which has developed sophisticated, yet inexpensive location management products for fleets of vehicles, sailing vessels etc. based on existing Satellite technology over the internet.
· Visionary Ltd., which has developed, advanced algorithms that enable the display of video using low bandwidth, i.e. over your cell phone and low speed internet connections.
I am very excited about the companies that will be at the Summit as I am sure our attendees will be. The time is definitely right for this event.
