The Big Apple Was a Big Success
by Renee McElhaney, Cox & Smith Incorporated, San Antonio, TX

USLAW and the City was a hit. The seminar, sponsored by the Employment Law Practice Group, hosted close to 50 participants, including attorneys from member firms all over the country and a wide array of client contacts.

The historic Algonquin Hotel in the heart of mid-town New York City was an excellent home base for the group, hosting morning presentations and serving as a staging ground for exciting afternoon and evening activities. Kathy Mahoney of Larson King, Heather Anderson of Best Buy, Donna McElroy of Cox & Smith Incorporated, John Reed of Traub, Eglin, Lieberman & Straus, along with Tom Birchfeld of Greenebaum, Doll & McDonald and Carla Hartley of Dillingham & Murphy, provided the participants with creative presentations on leading edge employment law and human resources issues. Each session offered practical tips for addressing these newest challenges. Most importantly, the presentation incited vigorous discussions involving both the attorneys and clients, sharing their experiences handling employment law issues.

Following the morning sessions, it was time to savor the City, with a host of activities. Some discovered the Met. Others toured the NBC Studio and Radio City Music Hall. And just about everyone took advantage of the opportunity for some serious shopping.

As for those New York City nights; well, let's just say the group tripped the lights fantastic. From dinner at the Judson Grill (with a bird's-eye view of celebs as they entered the daytime Emmy awards show) to the Broadway show highlighting Billy Joel's music, "Movin' Out," USLAW and the City gave every participant a chance to take a huge bite out of the Big Apple.

And it looks like USLAW and the City will be renewed for a second season. The Employment Law Practice Group has already started the planning for the next episode. Stay tuned for details.
