ExxonMobil's Lee R. Raymond (left) congratulated by USCIB Chairman William G. Parrett Lee R. Raymond, chairman and chief executive officer of Exxon Mobil Corporation, called on the U.S. and other nations to take a long-term view of recent energy challenges at USCIB's gala dinner on November 7 at the New York Stock Exchange.  Mr. Raymond was presented with the 2005 International Leadership Award.

Industry Presses for Urgent Action on Doha Round

As governments argued over the scope of potential cuts to agricultural supports – the linchpin for success in the Doha Round – in advance of next month’s make-or-break World Trade Organization ministerial in Hong Kong, industry stepped up the pressure for a breakthrough.  Sixty CEOs from around the world signed a joint appeal to governments to make the hard decisions necessary to ensure a positive outcome.

WSIS: Business Holds Out Hope for Progress

At a recent industry roundtable, business and U.S. government stressed that the upcoming United Nations-sponsored World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) should be used to focus on ways that the Internet can improve the economies of developing nations, rather than getting bogged down in the politics of Internet governance.

Better Cooperation Needed on Corporate Governance

Business leaders and experts from throughout the world met in London for a two-day event, organized by the International Chamber of Commerce, dealing with corporate governance regulation in a market-driven global economy.  One speaker noted the evolution of a “hybrid solution”: a private-sector code of conduct, endorsed by governments and given legal backing.
