EU Leaders Will Assess Enlargement’s Impact at ICC’s Marrakesh Congress

Barely a month after the accession to the European Union of ten new member countries, former French President Valery Giscard d’Estaing will offer delegates to ICC’s 35th World Congress his insight into the impact of an expanded EU on world trade.

His appearance at the June 6-9 conference in Marrakesh, Morocco will come just before a June summit at which EU members are expected to agree the final wording of the new EU-wide constitution whose development Mr. Giscard d’Estaing has presided over – leading some to dub him “Europe’s conductor.”

The new constitution is expected to expand the Union’s powers through the appointment of a full-time president and foreign minister, the creation of a supreme court, a rights charter, the abolition of many national veto powers in favor of majority voting, and treaty negotiation authority.

Joining Mr. Giscard d’Estaing in this key congress plenary session will be Czech President Vàclav Klaus.

Held every two years in a different location, ICC’s World Congress attracts global business leaders and policy makers for an in-depth discussion of the world economy, political and strategic concerns, and the latest business challenges.  It’s not too late to register for Marrakesh – please visit http://iccworldcongress.net for more information.
