Amid Outsourcing Furor, Industry Effort Aims to Foster Growth and Jobs

In the face of growing anxiety over trade and jobs on the part of some policy makers and the public at large, numerous leading companies and industry associations have joined forces to underscore that America is benefiting more than ever from active engagement with the international economy.

The Economic Growth and American Jobs Coalition was formally launched in March.  Comprised of numerous leading U.S. companies and trade associations, including USCIB, the coalition is working to promote economic growth and job creation in America, as well as retraining and education for American workers to enable them to continue to compete in the global marketplace.

"What’s lost in all the uproar over outsourcing and offshoring is how many jobs are created in the U.S. by virtue of our leadership on international trade,” said USCIB President Thomas Niles.  “Critics of open markets seem to view the U.S. jobs picture as a snapshot: it’s like this and it always will be.  But what we are seeing is just another chapter in the U.S. economy reinventing itself, creating better and more rewarding jobs.”

The coalition will promote policies to provide the education and retraining that allow American workers to build a better future for themselves and for their families, create jobs, encourage research and development, and foster open markets.  Members are meeting with congressional, state and administration officials, stressing the importance of economic growth, American job creation and retraining and education policies.

USCIB will support the coalition's efforts through active engagement in our global network of business organizations, especially the International Chamber of Commerce, making the case for expanded trade in services in promoting economic growth and development.
