Four New Countries Join ICC's Global Network

More than 150 business executives from over 80 countries convened in Paris last December for the 186th session of the ICC World Council. The meeting delegates came from as far afield as South Korea, Indonesia, South Africa and the U.S., and from the Netherlands, Romania, Finland, India and China.

Led by ICC Chairman, and Vivendi Universal CEO, Jean-René Fourtou, the Council took stock of the world business organization's activities in 2003 and set targets for 2004.

Four new national committees were welcomed to ICC's global business network - ICC El Salvador, ICC Malaysia, ICC Panama and ICC United Arab Emirates.

"ICC's influence grows with every year," said Mr Fourtou. "The addition to ICC of these four new national committees is evidence of the legitimacy and vitality of this unique global network."

Lorraine M. Brennan, ICC Director, Arbitration & ADR/North America, paid a visit in January to the United Arab Emirates National Committee to welcome them and to discuss their participation in the ICC Arbitration network. She met with Dr. Ahmed Saif Belhasa, who showed great interest in working closely with the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris to host arbitration conferences in UAE and to further knowledge and understanding of international dispute resolution within the business community.

USCIB’s Inaugural Meeting with the Young Arbitrators ForumUSCIB invites young lawyers from all around the United States to join them at Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP, New York, on March 1 for the first meeting of the Young Arbitrators Forum. The purpose of this forum is to offer guidance to young lawyers who are interested in the field of international arbitration. As globalization and international trade grows at a rapid speed, so does the need for international dispute resolution services. At this meeting, leading arbitrators and ICC representatives will discuss their experience and provide strategies for those who wish to pursue a career in the field. The arbitration body of ICC, the International Court of Arbitration, was established in 1923 and has been a pioneer in the field of international commercial arbitration. Since its creation, the Court has administered over 13,000 international cases involving parties and arbitrators from more than 170 countries and territories.
