Dear Friend and Supporter:
On behalf of our Board of Directors and staff, I am pleased to share with you the highlights and achievements of Ulster County’s economic development initiatives for the year 2003.
Success in economic development is measured in many ways. . . by the growth and prosperity of local businesses. . . the creation of new companies. . . by the diversity of job opportunities. . . and by the expanding opportunities for companies to sell their goods and services. In 2003, Ulster County saw the strengthening of public and private sector partnerships to aid businesses of all sizes and types, a revitalization of the entrepreneurial spirit, and record levels of private sector investment. . . all critical elements to successful economic development.
The Year in Review
We should all be proud of the achievements we saw, including. . .
- $110 million in new capital investment countywide.
- Over 1,700 jobs were created and retained.
- 25 new companies were welcomed to Ulster County bringing over 900 new job opportunities and capital investments of $78.5 million.
- 15 companies expanded representing 816 new and retained jobs and $31 million in new capital investment.
- 2003 closed with 61 projects under development with a total potential capital investment of $224,000,000 and the creation of approximately 2,800 jobs.
- Site selection, business and information assistance was provided to 765 active prospects and inquiries.
These achievements are impressive and reflect the efforts and support of many, including the Ulster County Legislature, the Ulster County Industrial Development Agency, the Ulster County Development Corporation, county and municipal officials, local, regional and state economic development professionals, academic and workforce training leaders, and most of all the private sector. It is these collective efforts that continue to provide the momentum for Ulster’s current and future continued growth.
Combine the basics of creating a good business climate with the intangibles of good living. . . a rich mix of culture, arts, history, and natural beauty. . . and you have all the indicators of a strong today and more promising tomorrow. Ulster County is a natural place to live, work and play.
Many Thanks!
I would like to extend a special thanks to all of our development partners, and the valuable contributions that our supporters make to the well being of our county. We believe that the year to come will bring even greater successes and that Ulster County will continue to prosper with your continued support and because of the strength of our businesses, our workforce, and our citizens.
