Message from the President
by Chester J. Straub, Jr.
This special issue of the Ulster County Development Corporation newsletter focuses upon several current efforts to help position Ulster’s businesses and our communities to meet today’s economic challenges.
As the old saying goes, “nothing in life is certain but death and taxes.’’ But more and more there is a third certainty. Change.
Change - economic, technological, and social – has become today’s greatest inevitability. The challenge lies not in embracing this concept, but in anticipating, adapting, and generating fresh, new ideas that exploit it. As entrepreneurs, business leaders, and communities, we need to look on change as an opportunity to create a better future.
We can and should look to change as the engine for growth.
In this issue, read about the newly established Mid Hudson Technology Council (MHTC), a collaborative effort of the academic institutions, technology businesses and the economic development organizations of Dutchess and Ulster Counties, working toward supporting the growth of existing technology based businesses, attracting new businesses, nurturing startups, and fostering partnerships that enhance the technological capacity of the Mid-Hudson Region.
Learn about the upcoming presentations by Dr. Karen Hitchcock, President of the University of Albany, titled “Nanotechnology and Biotechnology Mean Big Business for the Hudson Valley”.
Finally, learn about the Ulster County Development Corporation’s Telecommunications Fund and how it might help you and your business compete in the global marketplace.
These are only a few of the exciting developments in Ulster County. To learn more about what is happening and what is available to assist your business grow and prosper call the Ulster County Development Corporation today…to build for tomorrow.
