Students were treated to a variety of guest speakers and tours highlighting career opportunities at the port. Guest speakers included Union Pacific Railroad, The School of Seamanship/Sailor's Union of the Pacific, GSC Logistics, Alameda Transportation and Logistics Support Training at the College of Alameda, ILWU Local 75/ SSA terminals, and Amtrak.

ITTL's next student study tour will focus on career options in forklift and warehousing. This will include a campus tour of the College of Alameda to visit the educational training facility and learn more about the courses offered in the field. Then the students will visit Pasha to experience their on-site warehouses as well as see the loading and unloading of goods.

Barstow Mojave XPress

Barstow High School's Mojave XP Academy launched its job shadowing program in April. The two-month program is the foundation of what will eventually become an intensive internship program for Barstow students.

In preparation for Mojave XP's job shadowing program, students will study and practice resume writing, interviewing, personal statements, and business conduct skills. Led by Barstow teachers and informed by industry input, the job shadowing program will give students an up close and personal view of various logistics industry jobs. The program is aimed at preparing students for the workforce and motivating students to succeed in high school.

"We are already seeing results in the behavior and excitement in our students," said Gary Johnson, Barstow teacher. "We've even had kids running to be on time for after school tutoring sessions."

An awards ceremony is currently being planned to commemorate Mojave XP students. Mojave XP is off to a promising start and will continue to engage local industry leaders.
