The Ayers Perspective
New Offices at Home and Abroad, New Programs and Staff, New Perspectives on Leadership and Employee Development
by Bill Ayers

William L. Ayers
Vice President &
Business Unit Leader

Right now, I think we are all looking for reasons to feel optimistic. There  are signs that the decline is at least slowing and even a few tentative signs — widely referred to as “green shoots” — of recovery. At Ayers, we are buoyed by the move into our new offices at 99 Park Avenue over the last weekend in March. The feat of moving 20,000 square feet of furnishings, files, and IT systems three city blocks was seamless — the result of careful planning and hard work by our internal move team — and we were completely functional and ready for business in our new space first thing Monday morning, March 30.

In the last issue of The Ayers Report, we began featuring case studies of client companies that are using employee development programs to foster the hardiness and resilience that help organizations and individuals thrive in challenging times. [From The Director's Chair_Volume I] Following is what my OEC colleagues and I think is another outstanding example of this commitment.

Ask Nikki Bethel, VP-Organizational Effectiveness at HBO, how important it is for the cable pioneer to maintain its investment in employee development through the worst as well as the best of times and her answer is unequivocal: “More than ever!"

by Terry Ebert

Terry Ebert

The roll-out of Ayers’ full-service career transition practice in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, in partnership with Kelly sister company BTI, has entered a new phase. “The new practices have hit the deck running,” says Bill Ayers, “Lita Nithiyanandan, head of BTI, and her team have been extremely helpful in setting up and coordinating all this.”

“This market represents a tremendous opportunity for us, and our APAC colleagues have done an amazing job in terms of jump-starting business development,” adds Terry Ebert, the firm’s Managing Director of Career Transition.

Consultant's Corner
21st Century Skills
by Bridgitt Haarsgaard

Bridgett Haarsgaard
Senior Executive Consultant

I became interested in 21st century skills after reading The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman. The book made the consultant in me foresee a day when many American companies will wake up and find they aren’t competitive in a truly global, 24/7 business world – a world where customers are empowered by access to information, options, and tools (e.g., Twitter, YouTube, FaceBook) to reward or punish and where small start-ups with a new or better idea can upset members of the Fortune 100. It made the parent in me realize that our school systems are not equipping American children with the skills to compete successfully in a world where the best employers are going to hire the best talent wherever they find it.
