Disconnecting, Reconnecting, and Reinventing

In my last letter, I talked about the uncertainty and anxiety we’ve been seeing among the HR community as downsizing threatens your own ranks.  In fact, since we published the last issue of the Ayers Report, we’ve begun hearing from HR professionals who have lost their jobs.  Some of you are looking for ways to recapture the reward and challenge you had in the positions you’ve left but without the inherent stress.  Others are willing to accept change and stress but in a world other than HR.

Ayers Initiatives Address Workplace Stress

In the last issue of the Ayers Report e-newsletter, we asked, “What is causing you the most stress?”  Readers who responded to our online survey said economic conditions and job security (75.9%), war and terrorist attacks (6.9%), SARS (1.7%), and all of these (15.5%).

College Day Program Gives Grads an Edge in the Market

Ayers, MENG Hold First Joint Meeting

The Ayers Group recently agreed to host meetings of the Marketing Executive Networking Group (MENG) at its headquarters office.  In exchange, MENG will make specialized presentations available to senior Ayers candidates.  The topic for the first joint meeting, held in mid-July, was “Turning the Private Equity Community Into a Valuable Networking Resource."

OEC Consultant's Corner: Maximizing the ROI of Executive Coaching
A Conversation with Joyce Grillo

As executive coaching becomes more complex and pervasive, organizations face the challenge of applying and managing this resource effectively to maximize ROI.  Coaching that occurs in a vacuum—without being aligned to the company and its culture, strategic direction, and talent-management objectives, as well as to the specific situation and developmental objectives—does not enhance organizational effectiveness.  Without standards that create the alignment, coaching can be a series of disparate initiatives.

OEC Sees Renewed Interest in Diversity

Robert Kelling – In Memoriam

Our esteemed colleague, Bob Kelling, passed away in May, 2003. He died peacefully in his sleep, one week before relocating to North Carolina, where he and his wife had planned to live, in retirement, close to their son and his family.
