Ayers Helps Entrepreneurial-Minded Candidates Establish a Game Plan
An increasing number of Ayers candidates at the senior-executive level are exploring the option of starting a new business or buying an existing one, reflecting a larger national picture.
“In recent years, there has been a growing trend in the corporate world toward replacing more senior, and therefore more expensive, managers with less experienced employees,” says Dr. Peter Olsinski, a Senior Vice President in Ayers’ Outplacement Division. “The result has been a pool of executives in the 45+ age bracket who have found it difficult to find comparable jobs but are not yet prepared to retire. Add to this the fact that many are reluctant to go back into corporate situations for a variety of reasons, including not wanting to go through downsizing again, lack of control over lifestyle-related issues, frustration with the corporate environment, or a desire to reduce stress. More and more of these experienced managers are looking at becoming their own bosses."
While business knowledge and experience are part of the foundation for success, being well prepared to make the leap requires much more. The Ayers Group offers a specialized Entrepreneur/Business-Development Career Transition Program designed to help entrepreneurial-minded candidates move from thinking about such a venture to actually doing something concrete. As part of the program, a team of Ayers consultants works with each candidate in the following areas:
-
Assessing the candidate’s entrepreneurial strengths, skills, and aptitude for pursuing this career step
-
Exploring the pros and cons of the business and evaluating the potential for success
-
Developing business and marketing plans and a business financing profile
-
Understanding fundamentals relating to
“Basically, we’re helping these individuals create a game plan and ground rules for their post-corporate lives,” Peter says. “This year, I’ve personally worked with three executives who have successfully pursued their own businesses: one in financial planning, one who obtained venture capital to buy and combine two printing firms, and one who bought and turned around a failing used-car dealership. These are just a few of our recent success stories."
