Ayers Professionals ‘Give Back’

Giving back to the community has always been central to the values of The Ayers Group. In support of that commitment, the firm’s professionals use their knowledge and expertise and a variety of forums to help students, job seekers, client constituencies, and others.  Following are a few recent examples.

  • Following The Ayers Group College Day Seminar on June 1, Associate Barbara Safani was contacted by one of the  attendees via email.  That contact has grown into an informal mentoring relationship conducted online.
  • Senior VP Sally Haver has developed networking seminars and a workbook for clients of The Bottomless Closet, a nonprofit that provides business clothing and job-search and career-development support for economically disadvantaged women in New York City.
  • Sally and Senior Associate Donna Schwarz recently facilitated roundtable discussions on “Assessing and Honing Transferable Skills” and “The New Job Search:  What Works and What Doesn’t” at the annual Night of the Round Tables networking program for members of New York Women in Communications.
  • Senior Consultant Shelli Kanet has been conducting seminars for student interns at the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi in New York City on choosing a career direction and writing a resumé.  Shelli and Consultant Damon Montal have made presentations—focused on next career steps and search strategies—to the jobseekers’ support group hosted by the Unitarian Church on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
  • Managing Director Terry Ebert has been working with recent graduates of Boston University and other colleges, helping them develop resumés, hone interview skills, and prepare for internships and the job market.  He has had the satisfaction of seeing several of these young people begin their careers.

Each professional has a personal reason for taking time from a busy schedule to engage in pro bono work. “I made a successful career change myself, and my goal is to assist other individuals in finding satisfying and meaningful careers,” Shelli Kanet says.

“When I was a counselor, it was gratifying and psychically rewarding to know I had made a positive difference in people’s lives—and sometimes changed them completely!” says Sally Haver. “I do some pro bono work in addition to developing new business for the firm because it takes me back to where I started in this business—and to why I went into the business many years ago.”
