Tech Tools for Today’s Wired/Wireless Candidates

One of the challenges many candidates face in conducting a job search is lack of consistent access to the sophisticated technological tools they were accustomed to using on the job.  The Ayers Group’s well-equipped candidate facilities fill that need.

Candidates in Ayers' outplacement programs have access to secure networked workstations that run Microsoft’s Windows XP and Office XP, with the latest versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Access.  All Ayers offices provide secure wireless Internet access through a WiFi network that covers the A, B, and G spectrums, allowing candidates, clients, and others to use their own laptops and other wireless-enabled devices.

“We also have full-data T1 lines in all the offices,” says Edwin Jimenez.  The firm’s Network Administrator for the past five years, Edwin is responsible for its technology resources.  “Internet access is critical in today’s job-search process, so the idea is to make it faster and more efficient.  We’re making it easier than ever for candidates to use our significant online research resources and check their email.”

Those Internet-based resources include

  • The Internet Resource Center, through which candidates can access Ayers’ subscription databases and perform online research
  • The CPI Career Portal, which enables candidates and their consultants to partner interactively anytime and anywhere
  • CareerAdvantage, a database that incorporates real-time job-search information and management tools

The Ayers' offices are connected by a Virtual Private Network (VPN), which uses the Internet to transport data and documents.  VPNs are protected through encryption  and other security mechanisms, which ensure that only authorized users can access the network and transmissions cannot be intercepted.

“People in Norwalk, Parsippany, or Princeton can access files from headquarters as easily as if they were sitting here in New York.  Candidates who travel among our offices can request that we hold files on the network, which they can then retrieve from elsewhere within the organization.”

Edwin, who has a B.S. degree in Information Systems with a minor in Computer Science Programming, maintains and is constantly upgrading the desktop systems and infrastructure.

“My focus is keeping the candidates and employees of The Ayers Group connected to the information they need to run their searches, do their jobs, and stay in touch with their networks and potential employers.”
