From Your Editor ... Steve Capri

Welcome everyone to Issue 44 of TechCom Manager, 2008! Now that the weather is FINALLY tolerable here in Ohio, it makes everything else so much more enjoyable. Seems we had gray skies for so long, now everything is turning up green. I hope that wherever you are, the coming months afford you with enough luxurious weather and great outdoor activities – all of which almost makes you forget about our perpetual rip-off fuel prices and irritating politicians.

Want to Get Published?

First off, I want to once again thank everyone who has written for us this year, and thank those who have signed up for some of the upcoming months. We still need additional writers to carry us through 2008, so please let us know if you’re interested. In fact, I’m actually working on a plan that takes us through 2009, so it’s not too early to be thinking about getting published. So if you’re interested, please beam me an email and we’ll get you on the schedule with a suitable topic. It is you, our readers and participants, who make this newsletter great!

Our Theme for April, 2008

This month, our theme offers an introduction to XML/DITA and provides some insight as to how to determine if your company is ready to take the plunge.

Although we’ve talked about XML/DITA in previous issues, I thought it was important at this juncture to sort of take a tiny step back and really think about the overall solution from a business standpoint. Our feature article, Authoring in XML – Why Start?, does just that. The article comes to us from Barbara Stuhlemmer.

Barbara is the President and CEO of ClearComm Information Design, a company she developed to support growth and add value to her clients’ businesses through effective information management and outsourced documentation support. Barbara’s company provides technical writing and communications for high-tech manufacturers, focusing on the medical-device industry.

Please join me in welcoming Barbara to TechCom Manager!

Deadline Poll
If you had to pick between a) meeting an important deadline with only 80% of the information you need, or b) risk missing your deadline after acquiring 100% of the information, which would you choose?
I would go with 80% of the information to meet my deadline.
I would wait until I had 100% of the information and risk missing the deadline.
