Clean Technology Organization Selects Austin
Clean Technology and Sustainable Industries Organization (CTSI), a not-for-profit industry trade organization committed to the commercialization and global adoption of clean technologies and sustainable industry practices, announced that it will be creating a new branch in Austin and designating it as the new global headquarters of the company.

“We are excited to be working with such quality organizations in a community that believes sustainability is core to its long-term growth,” said Patricia Glaza, CEO of CTSI. CTSI also announced Austin Energy and Applied Materials as local, founding members of the organization.

Annual Brain Party Thanks Central Texas Engineers
The Austin Chamber will host its second annual Brain Party "Dos Techies - Austin Especial" on May 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Domain, Building 5, 11410 Century Oaks Terrace. The Brain Party is an event in honor of Central Texas Engineers for their contributions in making Austin the Human Capital. The party will feature Patrice Pike and is free to all Austin area engineers. Xitronix Selected as Texas ETF Recipient
The Austin Chamber of Commerce and the Central Texas Regional Center of Innovation and Commercialization (CenTex RCIC) announced that the state of Texas has chosen Xitronix Corporation, a Central Texas semiconductor company, as a recipient of an award funded through the Texas Emerging Technology Fund (ETF). Austin-based Xitronix, a company specializing in providing breakthrough process control metrology equipment to semiconductor manufacturers, will receive a $500,000 project award to match raised funds and accelerate the commercialization of its innovative technology development.

Medical Device Companies Top ETF Recipient List
The Texas Emerging Technology Fund is a $200 million initiative that was created by Rick Perry in Sept. of 2005. A 17 member advisory committee of high-tech leaders, entrepreneurs and research experts review potential TEFT projects and then recommend a funding distribution to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Speaker of House. So far TEFT has allocated more than $100 million in funds to Texas companies and Universities.

Integrated Systems & Circuits Conference May 7-9
The 3rd Annual Austin Conference on Integrated Systems and Circuits (ACISC) will again serve as a forum for the dissemination of technical information and advances in electronic technology at chip, board and system levels, covering design, CAD methodology and test. The conference will be held on May 7 to 9 at The Commons Center.

Protecting Your Intellectual Property Panel May 8
Intellectual property often needs global protection through a variety of business means, including contracts, tax planning, infrastructure and distribution channels. Join experts from the industry on Thursday, May 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Renaissance Hotel. Panelists will provide key points of fact to protecting IP assets—your valuable content, and important lessons learned as well as utilize case studies to illustrate successful strategies. Key points covered will include product and service development and delivery, distribution and channel management, patent reform and infrastructure. Chamber, University of Texas to Host Talent Reception in California
On May 20, the Chamber and the University of Texas Colleges of Engineering and Natural Sciences are partnering together for the first out-of-market talent reception to be held in La Jolla, California. The reception will give more than 500 University of Texas graduates of the Cockrell School of Engineering living and working in the San Diego area the opportunity to network and discuss opportunities in Central Texas.

Dr. Juan Sanchez, Vice President of Research, University of Texas at Austin, will be guest speaker at the reception. Sanchez is a member of the Chamber’s AusTech Alliance, which consists of representatives from the local technology industry.

Maples to Speak at Angel Network Event May 22
Join the Central Texas Angel Network (CTAN) and the Acton Angel Network for an exciting event on May 22 from 1 to 5 p.m., at the Four Seasons. BioAustin Initiatives a Success
BioAustin, an initiative of the Austin Chamber of Commerce, completed a very successful first year and the momentum is continuing into 2008 with the selection of Curt Bilby as the 2008 Chair.

“BioAustin now has a solid foundation thanks to the efforts of Bruce Leander (2007 Chair) and the BioAustin Council,” said Bilby. “The enthusiasm is high within the life sciences community and BioAustin will further develop and gain strength as we move through 2008 with new programs and events.”

Global Moot Corp Competition Near
Since 1984, teams of graduate students have been making this one of the most compelling business competitions in the world. Competition Rounds will take place in the McCombs School of Business on the University of Texas campus on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3. This year marks the 25th year anniversary of the Competition.
