The Federal Trade Commission and 61 agencies in various states announced 'Operation False Charity,' an effort that seeks to shut down solicitations from groups that claim to help firefighters, police and veterans but keep most of the cash for themselves. The BBB's Charity Information Service says such charities generate more than 130,000 inquiries a year.
