SCBA Members Meet and Greet Returning U.S. Soldiers at D/FW Airport
SCBA Members Participate in "Rest & Recuperation Program" for Returning U.S. Soldiers
by Brooke Dieterlen

From February 28th - March 5th, SCBA members met out at D/FW Airport to meet and greet the returning U.S. Soldiers for their two-week respite. The "Rest & Recuperation" program proved beneficial for the corporate employee volunteers as well as the soldiers with a morale boost for both groups.  With American flags waving, families hugging their returning soldiers, strangers holding homemade signs showing support for the soldiers' efforts, and the handshake exchange with the soldiers as they moved down the line toward their buses to catch their connecting flights, the event was a huge success for all involved. SCBA members brought goodie bags stuffed with items such as candy, gum, bottled water, candy bars, chips, nutrition bars, socks, disposable cameras, crackers & cheese and lip balm. The soldiers appreciated all who participated and made mention every day that they truly appreciated us taking time out to show our support of their efforts. See below some pictures from the week long event.

by Julia Easley

Childhood Obesity Epidemic Affects Businesses – Attend Town Meeting on April 22
More than 150,000 Dallas area children are overweight and at greater risk of serious illness.

Health insurance costs related to obesity are estimated at $8 billion per year. We must act now to improve the health of Dallas area children and to stem the economic impact on employers. Children’s Medical Center Dallas, the Community Council of Greater Dallas and Mayor Laura Miller invite you to participate in the Shaping America's Youth Town Meeting on April 22 at the Dallas Convention Center.

Shaping America’s Youth - (SAY) unites the U. S. Surgeon General, American Academy of Pediatrics, Academic Network, and corporate partners Cadbury Schweppes, FedEx, Kinko’s, Campbell Soup Company, McNeil Nutritionals, LLC, a Johnson & Johnson company and Nike, Inc. working at local, state and national levels to reduce and prevent childhood excess weight, improve nutrition and healthy food choices, and increase physical activity among children and adolescents.

At the Town Meeting, 1,000 community members from all walks of life will focus on promoting healthy physical activity and nutrition to prevent childhood obesity. We will discuss the barriers and identify solutions for healthy lifestyles for children. Every voice will be heard through a dynamic high tech process. Together we will establish a plan of action to reverse the increasing trend of childhood obesity.

Don’t miss this chance to make history in Dallas. We hope you will attend and encourage your staff and their children ages 14 and older to participate as well. The meeting, from 9am – 4 pm, includes breakfast, lunch, free parking and exciting door prizes. Limited child care is available.

Registration is available online at www.meetings.shapingamericasyouth.org

Purchase Bait Car Signs Today!
Post Bait Car Signs To Deter Car Thieves On Your Property
by Brooke Dieterlen

The Stemmons Corridor Business Association and the Dallas Police Department have teamed up together and are making available to all companies, hotels and apartment complexes, signs to post in the effort to reduce burglary to motor vehicles and auto thefts in the corridor. The signs indicate that a bait car may be in use in the area and if you steal a bait car you will go to jail. The thieves will never know if the car they are breaking into is a bait car or not. These signs will keep the criminals guessing, which is what we have to do to win the battle against burglary to motor vehicles and auto thefts on our properties. The signs can be purchased from the Stemmons Corridor Business Association.  The following sizes and prices apply:

8x10 vinyl window sticker       $16.50 each
12x18 vinyl window sticker       $20.25 each
18x24 vinyl & aluminum            $44.17 each
                 (parking lot & property signs)

All prices include shipping costs and are available in English or Spanish. For more information on the signs or pricing please contact Brooke Dieterlen at 214-800-8771.

These signs are available for purchase to post
