Wow - what an amazing evening!  A huge thanks to everyone who helped make Denim & Diamonds a success!

The Shelton Parents’ Association would like to thank our devoted auction co-chairmen, Denise Farinholt and Lyn LaMothe, who spent their entire spring break working and finalizing all the last details of the party!  They did an amazing job!

Looking ahead, please plan to order/purchase flowers at our Spring Flower Sale at the end of this month.  Beautify your garden while supporting Shelton - this is our last fundraiser of the year!

Finally, we hope you will all be able to join us for the SPA End of Year Luncheon on Wednesday, April 22nd.

As always, there are many opportunities for parents to get involved!  We encourage you to start thinking about volunteering for the 2009-2010 school year.  Please contact Rhonda Kehlbeck at volunteers@SHELTONPARENTS.NET, or one of us for a list of volunteer opportunities!

All the best,

Get to Know . . . the Ladies Behind the Auction - Denise Farinholt and Lyn LaMothe

Denise Farinholt and Lyn LaMothe have been chairing charity auctions together for over 13 years.  While Denise handles the technical side of the auctions, including organization, lists, statistics, and basically anything that deals with computers, Lyn takes care of gathering live auction items and the creative aspects of auction planning, such as set-up and decor.  Both say it takes a solid year to plan a successful event.

Denise has four children - all boys, one of which is a sophomore at Shelton.  She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from George Mason.  Denise works in her husband Tony’s business as an accountant.  In her spare time, she loves to cook for her family and friends.

Lyn also has four children- two boys and two girls.  Her youngest two are students at Shelton.  Lyn’s background is in Fashion Design, and she has a show room at the World Trade Center where she sells her gorgeous jewelry creations.  In her spare time, she loves spending time with her new granddaughter, Stella.

Both Lyn and Denise agree that “fun” is going back to their normal lives after the auction is over.  They enjoy spending the quality time with their families they may have missed out on during auction planning, as well as catching up on lost sleep.  Denise and Lyn’s greatest accomplishment this year was playing the Britney prank on Barbara and living to tell about it.

Parents' Association Sick of Fund-Raising: Says School Is "Good Enough."
3/10/2009 4:24:25 PM  By Staff

Diane Byrd and Barbara Novotny pose with ginormous check--the bane of their fund-raising existence.

On Thursday, March 5, the Shelton Parents' Association decided they'd reached a breaking point with regard to fund-raising.  Co-Presidents Barbara Novotny and Diane Byrd sat in disgust among the piles of papers, calculators, and auction items.  "Look at this mess," Novotny scowled, peering over her glasses, "and for what?  The school is good enough, really.  There's no need to keep going through this every year.  For Pete's sake, what else do we need?"  Upon spotting the giant check in the corner, she completely lost it.  "And another thing:  I hate those humongous checks--they're a real hassle.  They don't fit in my purse, and I get carpel tunnel trying to sign them."

"And you should see the pen we have to use," added Byrd.  "It's the size of a hockey stick.  Yeesh."  Novotny huffed some more, then decided she needed a vat of coffee.  She left our interview muttering to herself.
