Lunch and Learn
by Shilpa Arora and Paul Highby

Each semester, the Professional Development Center (PDC) offers Lunch and Learn, a series of seminars related to career development. Conceived as “concentrated learning in a networking environment,” Lunch and Learn is a forum for working professionals to meet, discuss their concerns in an open format and glean advice from keynote speakers and leading professionals in the industry.

Crescent Project Management organized the current Lunch and Learn series. Jacky Hood, president and a PDC instructor, notes that “Lunch and Learn provides San José State’s PDC with a mechanism to reach out to industry by increasing publicity and finding sponsors. For students, it provides an opportunity to network with people who have similar interests.” The objective of each session is to equip the attendees with something concrete to take home and apply in their professional lives.

At Lunch and Learn, you can expand your personal career network, benefit from mentoring professionals, mentor newcomers and hear highly qualified speakers. Past topics have included “Consulting: The Profession of the Professional” and “Why Women Fail in the Corporate Sector.”
