2003 Best Practices Conference
SAVE THE DATE: October 29th and October 30th in Dallas

This year's conference promises to be the best ever. So mark your calendar!  Back this year by request is the Executive Symposium scheduled for October 29th.  The General Session, chaired by Jim Lynde, Sr. Vice President of People for Red Lobster, will be held on October 30th. The conference will be held in Dallas at the Doubletree Hotel/North Plano.  More details available soon.

Meet Jim Lynde, the Senior VP of People for Red Lobster Restaurants, and the 2003 People Report Best Practices Chairperson.

Red Lobster has been a leader in the People Report™ consortium since 1996, and was recognized in 1998 with the first People Report™ Best Practices Award for outstanding performance in management retention, employee retention and composite diversity.  In 2001, Red Lobster was again recognized as the leader in casual dining in the same three critical benchmarks, a testament to the ongoing commitment to human resources excellence, supported and led by Jim and his team.

This year, Jim will lend his diverse service sector experience, along with his vision, industry knowledge, and unfailing great wit to planning and leading our 2003 conference.

Jim joined Red Lobster in July 1995 as SVP of People, and has leadership responsibility for creating business results through the capabilities and experiences of the 60,000 people employed by Red Lobster.  He has functional responsibility for the Staffing, Training and Development, Employee Relations, Leadership Development, Compensation and Benefits, and Canadian Human Resources functions.

Lynde’s career started with Pacific Gas and Electric Company in San Francisco in 1982.  During nearly 9 years at PG&E he developed through a number of  HR generalist and Compensation specialist assignments.  In 1989, he joined Westin Hotels and Resorts in Seattle as Director of Compensation.  Jim added benefits responsibilities in 1990 and advanced to Westin’s Vice President of Human Resources in 1991 where he lead human resources for 28,000 employees in 45 hotels in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Central America.

Jim received the Elliott Hospitality Motivator of the Year Award in 1998.  Of the five winners, Lynde was additionally honored with the Judge’s Choice. That same year, Red Lobster received the first “Best People Practices Award” from People Report at its 2nd Annual CEO and Senior Executives Symposium for the hospitality industry, and was again honored in 2001.

Jim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of California, Riverside and a Master of Science degree in Labor and Industrial Relations from the University of Oregon.

Jim and Peggy, his wife, reside in Orlando, Florida.  They have two children, Tory and Duncan.
