PRESIDENT'S LETTER
From the President
by Cory Joiner

I hope that everyone’s summer is going well and that those well deserved breaks are being scheduled in between those deadlines that no one told us about.

I was told when I entered this profession that summer was always a time of year things would slow down.  Vacations could be scheduled and there would be time to relieve the stresses created by the March and April 15 deadlines.  Either they failed to mention there would be deadlines every month or I missed the memo.

I would like to thank our outgoing President, Mark Gilliland for his service to the Chapter.  I also want to express the Chapter’s gratitude to Kim Clark, who after many years of service to the Chapter as the Chair of the Relations in Education Committee and as a Director of the Board has decided to take a much deserved break.

The TSCPA had its annual meeting on July 2 and 3 in San Diego.  One of the items discussed was the AICPA will be sending out ballots in the weeks ahead for voting on allowing persons who have either passed the exam and not met the experience requirements or persons in industry who have let their license lapse (non-CPAs) full membership.  Please be watching for this ballot.

Summer and fall are the season that most of us begin looking at our schedules and plan CPE for the year.  The Chapter and its planning committees for MIGI and Tax have been working hard and getting all of the speakers scheduled for the upcoming MIGI Conference, Tax Institute and Tax Update.  Between now and December, that’s 40 hours of CPE including 4 hours of ethics at the MIGI Conference.  The Chapter will again have a separate registration option for those who just need the 4 hours of ethics. SEE REGISTRATION LINKS BELOW.

We are also working with Steve Tillinger, who does our Tax Update in December, to schedule a 16 hour CPE relating to Partnerships and LLCs.  This is tentatively being scheduled for sometime in June or July of 2011.  If it is successful, he also has a 16 hour course related to S Corporations which can be scheduled for the following year.

Finally for our candidate members, in this newsletter you will find a notice regarding a Live Becker CPA review course that will be held at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin beginning on July 17.  Registration for the course opened on July 7 for those interested.

Enjoy the rest of the summer.

Cory Joiner

Cory is busy planning a Leadership Luncheon for the Board, Directors and Committee Chairs scheduled for July 29.  If you have topics for discussion, concern or ideas for the Chapter, send me an email.  We are always looking for new volunteers.  Contact me if you are interested.  It is our volunteers that make this the Best Chapter Ever.

REMEMBER if your contact information changes, send me an email at panchap.cpas@wildblue.net with the SUBJECT:  Directory Updates.  I will do my best to get all updates in the next printed directory.

Thanks for your patience with me, and I am looking forward to another great year!
