PRESIDENT'S LETTER
From the President
by Richard Blankenship

I hope everyone is doing well as we finish up 2007.  It's hard to believe another year is about over.  Be sure to mark your calendars and get your registrations in for the final Chapter CPE event on Tuesday, December 4, the 2007 Annual Tax Update.  Steven J. Tillinger from  Corpus Christi is speaking again this year.  I always enjoy Steve's presentations, and he does a great job on keeping us abreast of current tax changes and recent events in Washington.

Also, don’t forget to turn your orders in to Jobie for 2008 Master Tax Guides.   At a cost of only $30.00 each, this is a very good deal for members.

TSCPA Topics

Membership Recruitment
CPApalooza is rocking the state through Dec. 14. The chapter challenges have been issued and your chapter has an opportunity to win recognition and a fun challenge prize for your efforts. Members who recruit new members will receive rewards, and new members will be entered in a prize drawing. For more details and online membership applications, visit
http://www.tscpa.org/general/Membership/Recruit2007.asp.

Financial Literacy
Do you enjoy speaking about personal finance and small business topics? If so, sign up for TSCPA’s speakers bureau. TSCPA is looking for CPAs to speak at community and civic programs and to the media. There are talking points, speeches and PowerPoint presentations to make each speaking opportunity as easy as possible. The speakers bureau is one way for CPAs to become involved in TSCPA’s ongoing 360 Degrees of Financial Literacy effort. To volunteer, contact Avery Roth. (E-mail
aroth@tscpa.net; phone 800-428-0272, ext. 688, or 972-687-8688.)

Chapters Get New CPA-PAC Goals
It’s a new year for the CPA-PAC, and that means new fundraising goals for each of TSCPA’s 20 chapters. Check out what dollar amount your chapter will be striving to achieve in 2007-08, then consider making a contribution toward that goal. Seventy-five percent of your contribution will remain in your chapter to support local legislative candidates.

Build Your Network
You can build a network of other CPAs from around the state by serving on a TSCPA committee. Dec. 7 is the deadline to volunteer for the 2008-2009 service year. Study the list of available committees in the Volunteer member community
http://www.tscpa.org/resource/membercommunities/volunteer/index.asp, accessible through the Resources section of the TSCPA Web site (tscpa.org). Then click the Volunteer Today link to sign up.
