Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. Whether it’s going to a football game, watching a kid’s tennis or volleyball match, or being pulled down the street by our spastic Labrador on a cool clear day, this is a good time of the year.
Back in the day it was also a time when a young CPA’s mind turned to continuing education. Since I have a January birthday, I still think of this as the time of the year to load up on CPE. For years I’ve attended the Tax Institute, the MIGI Conference, and the Tax Update. That pretty much takes care of my CPE. Occasionally, I’ll pick up an additional tax, estate planning, or financial planning course so that I’m not always taking the same courses. And I’ve wondered if we should offer another course. This brings us to last week.
Steve Tillinger (who does a wonderful job each year with our Tax Update), has contacted Jobie to see if we might be interested in his two day Partnerships/LLC course. He teaches the course using the recently revised CCH Guide, and each participant receives a copy of this guide as the course material. This sounds like a good opportunity to add a 16 hour tax course to our calendar.
Steve also teaches a two day course on S-Corps, which prompted Mike Williams to suggest that we offer one course one year and the other course the next year. Good idea Mike!
Jobie has added a survey to this month’s newsletter to see how many members would be interested in attending this course. If enough members are interested, we will begin working to add the course to our schedule.
Casino Night
The 2nd Annual Casino Night has been set for Saturday, January 23rd. Jobie has the details in this newsletter. I just wanted to highlight that this year will feature a full meal, an open bar, and an extra hour of playing time. It’s going to be a lot of fun!
If I don’t see you at the MIGI conference, I’ll see you at the Tax Update. Hope you all have a great Fall!
