Six alumni honored with induction into the Long Purple Line
Six Northwestern State University graduates have been selected as the 2008 inductees into the Alumni Hall of Distinction, the Long Purple Line. The honorees, Dr. Robert Brown of Russellville, Ark., the late Speedy O. Long, Dr. Melissa Lynn of Shreveport, Alvin Moreau Jr., of Baton Rouge and Dr. Tom Paul and Maxine Southerland of Natchitoches, were honored at the annual Homecoming Banquet on Friday, Oct. 24 and at the Homecoming football game against Sam Houston on Saturday, Oct. 25. Out of more than 75,000 Northwestern alumni, only 93 people have been chosen for this honor.

Doyle and Barbara Bailey receive the 2008 President’s Distinguished Service Award
Doyle and Barbara Bailey of Natchez have been named recipients of the 2008 President’s Distinguished Service Award at Northwestern State University. The Baileys were honored at the annual Homecoming Banquet on Friday, Oct. 24 and at the Homecoming football game against Sam Houston on Saturday, Oct. 25.

Six faculty receive Excellence in Teaching Award
Six outstanding educators at Northwestern State University will be recognized for their contributions to the university and their individual colleges as recipients of this year’s Excellence in Teaching Awards. The outstanding teachers were selected by their peers and were recognized during this year’s Homecoming festivities Oct. 24-25.

Six alumni to be inducted into Hall of Distinguished Educators
The Northwestern State University College of Education inducted six outstanding alumni into the Hall of Distinguished Educators during Homecoming festivities Oct. 24-25.  This year’s Distinguished Educators are Connie Gaines Buck and Dan Chase of Baton Rouge, John Dilworth of Montgomery, Ala., Hershel M. Machen Jr. of Winnfield and Dr. Jerry Payne of Marshall, Texas.

Graduate N Club Hall of Fame will spotlight 13
Two stars on 1988 Southland Conference champion Northwestern State football team, current Demons head coach Scott Stoker and longtime NFL defensive back Randy Hilliard, were among the honorees for the university's 2008 Graduate N Club Hall of Fame ceremonies on Homecoming morning on Oct. 25.

Basketball fans urged to join The Core this season
As the Northwestern State men’s basketball team approaches a potentially historic season and the Lady Demons also have a bright outlook as 2008-09 practices begin Friday, with both programs having posted Southland Conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances in the past four years, fans are encouraged to join “The Core” of NSU basketball season ticket holders.

Kurt Rodriguez scholarship golf entries open
Much can be said about Kurt Rodriguez’s tenacity, spirit, and his impact on Northwestern State Demons football, both during his playing days and in the record books.

Next Saturday, on the morning of the final home football game pitting the Demons against Southland Conference rival McNeese State, the NSU Athletic Association will host the “Kurt Rodriguez ‘58’ Memorial Golf Tournament” at the NSU Demon Hills Golf Course to honor his legacy and provide financial support for a scholarship endowment in his memory.
