UMassFive College Federal Credit Union, proud to call many of the riders members, hosted the homecoming event for the C-Cycle 4,000+ mile, cross-country race in Downtown Amherst, with sandwiches and salads donated by River Valley Market. The Valley Co-operative Business Association, the Pioneer Valley’s own cross-sector co-operative business organization, helped bring in twelve co-operative businesses to table, most of whom donated great raffle prizes to help raise funds for Co-Cycle. Combined with funds raised for food, the event raised $430 for Co-Cycle in just three hours.
The event was an emotional return for the Co-Cycle riders. Supporters helped swell the number of bicyclists from fourteen to over twenty on a journey from River Valley Market in Northampton to Downtown Amherst the morning before the event. Parents and friends came to welcome these co-operative heroes home, and guest appearances were made by Eric Deluca of the National Co-operative Business Association, and Jonathan Lash, the President of Hampshire College.
