President's Message, September 2004

What an especially exciting and busy time for our chapter! As we continue to grow to offer the great benefits of NAWBO to more women business owners, our visibility is also increasing greatly within our community.

  • Regional initiatives are underway in both Fort Worth and Denton, to bring NAWBO benefits to WBOs who are "geographically challenged" with regards to regular attendance at D/FW chapter events. The Fort Worth initiative will be led by Robin Birdsong, CEO of BenefiTree Enterprises LLC, while the Denton initiative is being led by Kathy Duke, vice president of The Duke Agency. These initiatives are in the embryonic stage, with many details still to be worked out, so stay tuned. The Denton group hosted their first luncheon on Tuesday, September 7th. I strongly encourage everyone to support this regional initiative. The luncheons will be posted on our chapter website, at www.nawbotx.org.
  • On August 26, NAWBO D/FW also launched the first of our quarterly networking events, with 55 in attendance and a wonderful evening of conversation at the Dallas Museum of Art. Special thanks to Leslie Bellows and her committee for their abundant energy, enthusiasm and commitment in planning this event!
  • NAWBO/DFW and its members received prominent mention in the August 20th  edition of the Dallas Business Journal, in a special report entitled "Land of Opportunity." This edition also included the annual list of the top 75 women-owned businesses in the Metroplex, ranked by 2003 local revenue. I’m extremely proud that 16 of the top 75, or 21 percent, are NAWBO members—and three of those are in the top 20! In addition, two of our members, Wendy Lopez and Joy Wallace, were featured in separate sidebar articles. For more information, pick up a copy of the publication, or see www.bizjournals.com/dallas.

Congratulations to our entire membership!

NAWBO D/FW continues to make a positive difference and a noticeable impact in our business community. Let’s all keep Changing the Face of Business!

Susan Abrahamson

President, 2004-2005
