NAWBO D/FW 2004
Awards:
MAY LUNCHEON
Kathy Burke, President of Above and
Beyond, received NAWBO D/FW’s 2004 Woman Business Owner of the Year Award at
the chapter’s May monthly luncheon. Kathy was recognized for her achievements
and contributions to the community. While addressing the audience, Kathy shared
how she grew her business in the toughest of economic times. “Winners of the
Woman Business Owner of the Year Award are truly an inspiration to other women.
They are leaders, innovators, organizers and builders who play a significant
role in our economy and community,” said Wendy Lopez, president of NAWBO D/FW
and CEO of LOPEZGARCIA GROUP. “We are proud to honor these women who have
survived, grown, succeeded and triumphed against enormous odds to change the
face of business in Texas.”
Cynthia Stine, Joseph Sullivan, LLC
&Associates, was awarded the
NAWBO D/FW President’s Award.
Cynthia embraced the role of Director of Corporate Partners in mid-year. Once
committed to the job, Cynthia took the challenges head on. Her first task at hand was to assess the
state of affairs with our Corporate Partners by meeting and listening to their
various concerns and expectations in regards to their individual corporate
sponsorships. Through Cynthia’s, and her team’s, efforts, NAWBO has not only
stabilized existing Corporate Partner relationships, but has identified
additional corporations as prospective new corporate partners.
Billie Day, President of OnSite
Solutions, Inc
., was honored as the
Public Policy Advocate of the Year.
The
NAWBO
Pink Poodle Award is a new award. It will be a “traveling” award. Each
year it will move from member to member.
Just as the Pink Poodle is beautiful, generous, loyal, and has tons of
style, this year’s recipient of the award is of equal character.
Suzi Berman, Creative Director, D Media
Inc
., is a talented graphic designer
and she has donated countless hours creating NAWBO’s new look of printed
material, as well as the website, over the past couple of years. Suzi has also
consistently engaged her NAWBO D/FW Marketing Committee to promote NAWBO in the
most positive way to our constituents.
The
NAWBO
Star Award is also a new award. This is an award that will not
necessarily be awarded every year, but will certainly be awarded when warranted. This award is given to someone who is not a
NAWBO member or a Corporate Partner, but is a friend of NAWBO. This person supports the NAWBO mission and
the NAWBO Board. The first ever NAWBO Star Award was awarded to
Gary Johnson, Assistant to the
President, LOPEZGARCIA, INC. Gary has been indispensable in assisting many of
the Board members. He gives generously
of his time and his ideas and, most of all, he is “Mr. Dependable.”
