We have had fabulous programs and the attendance has been record-breaking. We’ve had over 100 attendees at both the February and March Luncheons!
Our March program was especially important because we recognized our Corporate Partners – the corporations who support us day in and day out. And although we appreciate and thank them often, we formally recognized them at this meeting. And in case you hadn’t heard, our Corporate Partner of the Year award went to Donna Butterfield with Bank One. Donna has been an active supporter of NAWBO for many years (longer than I can remember) and has always volunteered her time and her ideas to help our Chapter in so many ways. We certainly appreciate her tireless efforts on behalf of NAWBO. Congratulations, Donna!
Several weeks ago eight DFW NAWBO members attended Public Policy Days in Washington DC for an action packed two-day conference. I thought you’d like to know that the number one concern expressed by those present was the cost and availability of health care insurance. NAWBO supports the creation of Association Health Plans (AHPs) to improve access and choice for women business owners with respect to medical care for their employees. It’s an issue that impacts our ability to recruit and retain employees. The number 2 issue, which we lobbied Congress on, is Procurement. NAWBO opposes Contract Bundling and supports the achievement of the 5% Women Business Enterprise (WBE) federal procurement goal.
We also took the opportunity to advertise the National Conference at Public Policy Days. Marilyn Bushey, our Conference Liaison, and her committee did a wonderful job preparing Conference bags for all Public Policy attendees. They were a big hit and generated a lot of excitement about the Conference.
With the National Conference less than 3 months away, the Chapter activity is at an all-time high. The conference brochure is complete and is being sent out to all members. Our Chapter has set 3 pre-conference activities – a Golf Outing at Cowboys Golf Course, a Sight-seeing Tour of the City, and a Spa and Shopping Excursion to the Dallas Galleria and Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa. These activities are not just for our visitors, so sign up and have some fun. (Couldn’t we all use a day at the Spa?)
I can’t believe my Presidency is more than halfway over. You have such a wonderful Board representing you all. They have risen to the occasion at every turn and I am proud and humbled to work with such a fine group. Next time you see them, please tell them how much you appreciate them. Until next month… Pump up the Volume!
