Member Profile: Sally Spingler

Sally’s company mission is to provide superior client service at a competitive price. She founded her practice in November of 2002 to provide tax planning and consulting services and expatriate program tax and consulting services. Before starting her business, Sally spent eleven years focusing on expatriate program tax and consulting services in the ‘Big 4’ as well as providing audit, tax, and business advisory services.

Sally’s target market includes individuals with complex domestic tax situations, companies who have transferred employees internationally and are covering expatriate employees’ tax matters in their international compensation policy, and expatriates without company sponsorship. Sally enjoys solving complex technical issues and when her clients express satisfaction with her work and spread the word. Although she has only been a NAWBO D/FW member for a short time, Sally said that because she has already witnessed a group of women who truly support each other she is reassured and optimistic about her decision to join NAWBO.
Sally joined NAWBO in February of 2003 to benefit from networking and mentoring opportunities. Sally joined the MasterMind/Education Committee to have the opportunity to network in small groups where women become close advisors to each other and assist in providing educational opportunities to NAWBO members. She later joined Public Policy as well.

She’s not all work, though! Sally recently became a ‘new’ grandmother and loves spending time with her husband, two grown children and their spouses, and two grandchildren who are 4 years and 20 months old. In addition, Sally and her husband have three ‘adopted children’ at home: a Siberian husky, an Akita and a Himalayan cat who keep them entertained. They love spending time with parents who are young in spirit. They own mountain lake property in North Carolina and love hiking, camping and water sports.

NAWBO is not the only organization that Sally supports. She supports the United Way and American Red Cross, and has served as a disaster action team member and leader of an emergency assistance to families team. She plans to resume her volunteer activity after her business is established. This is a very personal commitment for Sally, as her family experienced first-hand the total devastation of a disaster and the loving spirit they received from Red Cross volunteers. They felt they needed to give something back for the kindness they received. Sally worked on the Kuwaiti hostage repatriations during the first Gulf War and has worked on several family disasters.
Sally also supports her college and contributes to scholarship funds sponsored by various organizations whenever possible. This is also another personal mission; because she was fortunate enough to qualify for college scholarships to complete her education, Sally wants to provide that same support for others. She always designates her contributions for returning students, especially working women who have returned to college.
Her family contributes to many other organizations they feel are important and who make extraordinary contributions to society, including: her home church, food relief ministries, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Disabled Veterans, ASPCA, the Humane Society, Habitat for Humanity, Toys for Tots, the American Lung Association, the American Heart Association, Easter Seals, and St. Jude’s Children’s Research.

When we asked Sally what else she would like her NAWBO community to know about her, this is how she responded:
“I have a very varied work background and am very versatile. It took me 8 years to obtain my bachelor’s degree while working full time as a single parent. I do not give up and get very motivated when someone tells me I cannot do something, especially if the implication is that I cannot achieve my goals because of my sex or age. I don’t forget the people who have supported me in the past and recognize how important that is to other women who have set high goals for themselves.”

It is clear that we are fortunate to have Sally as an active member of our chapter; she will definitely help us to ‘Pump Up the Volume!’
