September 8 Luncheon RECAP
"Beyond 'the Box': Cultivating Creativity"
by Co-Director of marketing Katrina McBride

The NAWBO D/FW September luncheon was an action packed event for the 65 members and guests who gathered for the Dallas/Ft. Worth chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners’ monthly luncheon at CityPlace near downtown Dallas.

President Wendy Lopez opened the meeting by welcoming visitors and new members and made several announcements beginning with a reminder of the brunch being hosted September 13 by past NAWBO D/FW presidents at the home of NAWBO D/FW member Lucy Billingsley in support of the Chiapas Project, a micro lending program for women who are starting small businesses in Chiapas, Mexico.  Other announcements included the Fine Wines & Masterminds wine tasting event scheduled for September 22 at Tony’s on Oak Lawn and "The Power of PR in Growing Your Business"
by Mary Schnack followed by a reception at Los Colinas Country Club for the NAWBO’s National President Elect Beverly Inman-Ebel on October 21.

D’ Forman brought the attendees up to date on the WBC/NAWBO D/FW Golf Tournament and Silent Auction! Join us at Brookhaven Country Club on October 27. The final announcement was to recap the tele-class program for Financing Your Small-to Mid-size Business offered at no charge by corporate partner, The Principal Financial Group on September 10.

VP of Programs Joan Voeller introduced the second in a series of business related programs. Lora Brandis and Laurie Moore of rainmaker advertising presented “Beyond ‘the Box’: Cultivating Creativity”. The lively and interactive program gave the attendees great information about cultivating creativity in their personal and professional lives. To conclude the presentation a lucky guest, Sharon Smith, was selected to be the focus of a “rainstorming” exercise by the entire group.  Sharon left the session with pages of great ideas for starting her new business.  [Note: Sharon has since become a NAWBO D/FW member!]

President Wendy Lopez ended the luncheon by encouraging guests to take the opportunity to become NAWBO D/FW members. She reminded all that the call for nominations for the Women’s Enterprise Top 50 Woman-Owned Businesses in Texas deadline was September 12, 2003.
