NAWBO Connects Members and Guests
by Marketing Co-Chair Katrina McBride

President, Wendy Lopez began by welcoming visitors and new members and introducing Retta Miller of Jackson Walker who presented how NAWBO has made connections for her.

One of the chapter’s newest members, Lucy Billingsley, shared her passion for The Chiapas Project, a unique micro-lending program targeted to the women of Chiapas, Mexico.  More than a year ago, Lucy became involved with this project, vowing to raise money from Dallas businesswomen to help Chiapas women with newly created businesses. The Chiapas Project is truly an opportunity for women helping women on the most basic level and NAWBO D/FW is proud to be a sponsor of this project.

Director of Public Policy Susie Morrissey requested membership involvement with the NAWBO PAC announcing that 100% of the current Board of Directors had made monetary contributions in support of the PAC’s efforts regarding the interests of women business owners.  Additionally, Susie introduced her Public Policy Liaison Project that positions members of NAWBO to “adopt a representative" and in order to start a dialogue with our representatives in their home offices so they know NAWBO's position on a variety of issues. This will be a great opportunity to have an effect on legislation that can impact your business and personal life.

VP of Programs Joan Voeller introduced the first in a series of business related programs.  This month’s program focused on identifying your target market presented by Julie Chance, owner of Strategies by Design. The tabletop discussions following the presentation centered on this topic. The members were encouraged to take our marketing ideas back to our Mastermind groups.

Additional discussions included:

  • Kelly Kimmel of the NAWBO corporate partner Principal Financial announced that her company would pay the registration fee for any NAWBO member who wanted to attend the Latina Business Series event held in Dallas and encouraged membership attendance.

  • Co-Chair of the Golf Tournament D’ Forman announced that this year’s event will be a Florida Scramble format and that her committee is seeking WBE sponsorship and donations to the silent auction.

  • Finally, President, Wendy Lopez announced that chapter annual dues have been increased from $75 to $100.
