Woman Helping Women Succeed
by Wendy Lopez, Dorthy Miller and Debra Skriba
Would you like to slow down for a minute, socialize
with fellow NAWBO D/FW members in a beautiful home setting, mingle with powerful
women who were once NAWBO D/FW presidents, and promote an agenda that
helps women less fortunate than ourselves to establish successful
businesses?
Then mark your calendar for Saturday, September 13th
to attend a late summer brunch at Lucy Billingsley’s beautiful Highland
Park home to kickoff NAWBO D/FW’s support of raising funds for
women.
This event will introduce you to The Chiapas Project, a
unique micro-lending program targeted to the women of Chiapas, Mexico. More than a year ago, Lucy became involved
with this project, vowing to raise money from Dallas businesswomen to help
Chiapas women with newly created businesses.
The Chiapas Project is truly an opportunity for women
helping women on the most basic level:
for example, helping a woman purchase a donkey to carry wood to sell at
market, or helping a woman purchase equipment to grind corn for making
tortillas. And, these women have a 97
percent re-payment history.
If you have ever had a challenging experience with your own
business, you will be able to relate to the obstacles these women face. As little as a $50 donation can have a huge
positive impact on these businesses. If
you can’t give $50, then give what you can; any and all donations will be
gratefully accepted.
NAWBO members can
contact NAWBO Past President Dorthy Miller at Dorthy_M_Shore@miller-advertising.com
or 972.243.2211 to get involved. For more information about the The Chiapas
Project/Grameen Foundation, visit www.gfusa.org.
