NAWBO D/FW Annual Event: Fire Up Your Future!
NAWBO Creates Connections
by Suzi Berman

The NAWBO D/FW annual meeting for 2003 focuses on the theme "Fire Up your Future!" with the intent to inspire, encourage and educate women business owners in successful business negotiations.

* If you have ever thought about pursuing government contracts or encouraging your small business clients to do so . . .
* If you want to hear the exciting things the SBA has in the works for small businesses . . .
* If you just want to recharge by listening to two awesome speakers . . .
--This is the event for you!

Women business owners will gain insight about steady growth and profitability through the innovative approaches of Elaine Mendoza, founder of Conceptual Mindworks, Inc. (CMI) and Core6 Solutions. Utilizing the competitive procurement process, Core6 was awarded a $100 million contract to provide technical support for the Department of Defense. CMI has realized a steady growth and profitability since the company's founding in 1999 out of San Antonio, Texas.

"Elaine Mendoza has proven that Women Business Owners have a place at the table when it comes to Government Contracting. Her company, Conceptual Mindworks Inc., formed a joint venture named Core6 Solutions with another WBE, and won a $100 Million contract with the U.S. Air Force. Elaine will tell you how she did it and as she always says, "If I can do it, so can you!"

Understand policy and program development within the SBA as Melanie Sabelhaus, SBA Deputy Administrator, speaks about the business and procurement development programs available to our nations entrepreneurs. The SBA is America¡¦s Small Business Resource and the single largest financial backer of small businesses.

"One of the most dynamic speakers I have ever heard. Melanie Sabelhaus, SBA Deputy Administrator, brings energy, passion and determination to the small business cause. As a former small business owner she is savvy about the challenges we all face and is especially knowledgeable about issues involving women business owners. I cannot wait to hear what she has to say!¨

NAWBO D/FW's Fire Up Your Future!, an occasion to present awards and celebrate women business owners, will feature a networking exhibit hall of local women-owned businesses and corporations. Visit this exhibit hall and meet some of D/FW's most creative and innovative WBEs.

Fire Up Your Future! will also include the presentation of the recipient of the prestigious Louise Raggio Pathfinder Award. The Louise Raggio Award is given to a woman entrepreneur who has an ongoing impact on the community and exemplifies hard work, integrity and intelligence, and is a role model for all people, says local NAWBO D/FW chapter president, Diane McCartney. Winners are extraordinary leaders who are very involved in the business community. This year¡¦s winner is Suzanne Charriere, Managing Principal of Corgan Associates. Suzanne was chosen because she exemplifies the values of Louise Raggio¡¦s life and career and is a true role model.
