A Mix of Business and Pleasure
by D' Forman

Most of us know that business is demanding and it can steal your life...if you let it. One reason we began our own businesses was to have more life, not less! What goes wrong with entrepreneurs and their businesses?

NAWBO members mixed business and pleasure at an after hours networking event on April 3rd, held at the offices of The Newsletter Company. We were treated to the presentation "Using E-Myth Strategies to Grow Your Business" by Kevin Poland of The Renaissance Group. Mr. Poland is a certified E-myth coach and teaches strategies from the popular book, "The E-Myth Revisited," by Michael E. Gerber. The "E" stands for entrepreneur.

Mr. Poland's presentation focused on why we need to have vision, how to work on our businesses instead of in them and why developing business systems can solve many of our work related challenges. He suggested that the processes of your business should be documented, so that anyone could step in and do the work in the way you've deemed most profitable, efficient and customer-oriented. When processes are put in place and followed, your business becomes more attractive to purchasers when you decide to sell, because it is not as dependent on specific managers, employees or even you.

Special thanks to Mary Ann and Sherry McKinley of The Newsletter Company for hosting the event, Debra Alexander of HRevolutions and Juliet Morphew of Design/Systems Group, Inc. for assistance in pulling the event together and Seberina Trevino of the Bradley Group for registration coordination.
