Jackson Walker L.L.P.
Founded in 1887, Jackson Walker L.L.P. is one of the oldest and largest Texas-based law firms. Jackson Walker offers expertise in virtually every area of the law through a strong regional base of more than 300 attorneys in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Richardson, San Angelo and San Antonio. The firm regularly represents clients in such areas as corporate and securities, litigation, intellectual property, health care, labor and employment, legislative and regulatory, real estate, tax and estate planning, technology, bankruptcy, aviation and international law.
Jackson Walker has always been dedicated to supporting organizations which advocate the advancement of women in business. Because of this dedication, Jackson Walker women attorneys have always taken active roles in and given significant time and energy to the leadership of those organizations.
For more than six years, the firm and its women attorneys have been significantly involved in supporting NAWBO through underwriting/sponsoring events, assisting in creating new chapters, and offering free legal services.
Currently, Jackson Walker attorneys Retta Miller and Stephanie Chandler serve as general counsel, in-kind, for the DFW and San Antonio NAWBO chapters, handling legal matters for NAWBO and providing legal advice. In 1997, Jackson Walker provided highly experienced corporate attorneys to assist in the creation and organization of the San Antonio chapter. The firm also offers a free legal Hotline to San Antonio (210-978-7701) and DFW (214-953-6035) chapter members. The Hotline provides NAWBO members with legal advice regarding minor problems incurred in their professional capacity as business owners. Hotline issues often include such matters as how to incorporate a business, how to properly terminate an employee, how to protect a business’s name and trademark, or how to respond when a lawsuit has been filed against the member’s business. The Hotline is available during regular business hours, five days a week. Jackson Walker attorneys Cami Boyd, Shalyn Timmons and Misti Weeks, among others, staff the Hotline.
Jackson Walker’s continual support of NAWBO also includes sponsoring numerous events and participating in seminars and workshops. Many of the firm's attorneys also serve on various committees, and have served as panel members and/or speakers at NAWBO events regarding legal issues. For example, at this year's NAWBO annual meeting, which Jackson Walker has sponsored for many years, its attorneys presented a workshop, “Negotiations with the Big Company.” Jackson Walker attorneys Misti Weeks and Shalyn Timmons currently serve on the Annual Event and Corporate Partner committees.
Jackson Walker is a major corporate sponsor of both the San Antonio and DFW chapters, and received the 1997 DFW NAWBO Corporate Partner of the Year award. In addition to its involvement with NAWBO, Jackson Walker supports women business owners in a variety of other ways, including its sponsorship of the Greater Dallas Chamber Annual Women’s Business Conference.
