NAWBO 2002 Annual Luncheon
A Great Success

On June 10th, members and guests gathered at the Wyndham Anatole to participate in a tantalizing day designed to educate, motivate and entertain. At the event, with the theme of  “Ascend to the Summit:  Courageously Embracing Risk,” guest speakers shared their personal experiences and professional expertise.

The morning was devoted to three informative workshops. The Imprimis Group sponsored a workshop featuring Dr. Sharon Hadary, executive director of the Center for Women's Business Research in Washington, DC.  Dr. Hadary discussed the latest research and exciting trends in women-owned businesses, based on a research study released at the end of 2001.

Melissa Grimes, president of Studio West, a Lubbock interior design firm, presented a workshop titled "14 Fun, Fast and Fresh Ways to Vitalize Your Work Space...and You!"  This discussion offered interactive, energizing tips and small changes that can make a huge difference in the bottom line.

JPMorgan Chase sponsored "Show Me The Money."  The workshop featured JPMorgan Chase, Evergreen Financial and First Community as they presented everything you need to know about where to go, what to do, who to talk to, and when to ask for capital to grow your business.

Stacy Allison, author and business owner, and the first American woman to climb to the top of Mt. Everest, was the featured speaker.  She spoke on the rewards of taking risks, both outdoors and in business pursuits.

The recipient of the 2002 Louise Raggio Pathfinder Award wrote her own book on taking risks:  Colleen Barrett of Southwest Airlines scaled to the top of the company to become its president, COO and corporate secretary.

Also recognized on this great day were six inspiring women who ascended to the summit and courageously embraced risk.  These women included Dr. Linda Atwill, professional speaker in corporate consulting and private practice; Paula Douglass of Paula Douglass State Farm; Lois Melbourne, president and CEO of TimeVision, Inc.; Karen Thompson, president of Accent Transportation, Inc.; Melinda Trigg, owner of Chuchoter Boutique; and Trisha Wilson, president of Wilson and Associates, Inc.

We hope you enjoyed the day, if you weren’t able to join us, we’re sure you won’t miss it next year!
