We are approaching the end of the NAWBO year, and most importantly, the beginning of a new one. Chapter elections have taken place, and the new officers and board members are getting ready for installations in June.
It is also the time for NAWBO National’s annual meeting and Women's Business Conference, to be held June 20-25 in Salt Lake City. This year's theme is "The Power of Partnership."
The meeting will feature a powerful lineup of speakers, workshops and connection opportunities. The Southwest region is represented by three workshop presenters. Liz Davenport, owner of Order from Chaos in Albuquerque, New Mexico, will give a "get organized" course based on a simple, easy system to get and stay organized. Vickie Sullivan, of Sullivan Speaker Services in Phoenix, Arizona, will speak on “Springboard Marketing: Leveraging Public Speaking.” And Katharine Halpin, also from Phoenix, will discuss “Creating Powerful Partnerships.”
A special feature is the first annual Procurement Fair, sponsored by NAWBO’s sister organization, the National Women Business Owners Corporation (NWBOC). NAWBO’s other sister organization, the Center for Women’s Business Research, will be well-represented by its executive director, Sharon Hadary, who will be one of the keynote speakers.
One of the best parts of the NAWBO conferences is that we represent a variety of industries, business sizes, locations, etc., whereas with industry conferences, everyone is in the same business. Consequently, at NAWBO conferences, you are not “tilling the same soil” and thus can find new ideas for your business.
Immediately following the Conference, on June 24-25, the organization will hold a strategic planning meeting that will mark the beginning of a five-year strategic planning effort chaired by Immediate Past President Barbara Stanbridge. This planning process is designed to provide multiple levels of participation for all NAWBO stakeholders. National Board members, chapter leaders, Corporate Partners and other interested parties are strongly encouraged to attend.
