January 14th Meeting

All Issues are Women’s Issues

Each of our lives is affected, every day, by policies that are set by our local, state and federal elected officials. Some we may agree with and others we disagree with, but by and large, women have yet to realize the power of their voice and vote.

January marks the celebration of Public Policy throughout NAWBO. It is our opportunity to realize what’s happening and what's about to happen on the political scene, and what we can do about it.  To help kick off this Public Policy Month, NAWBO’s DFW Chapter is proud to present State Senator Florence Shapiro.

Florence Shapiro began her service in the Texas Senate on January 12, 1993, and has been re-elected three times. She serves as chair of the Senate State Affairs Committee, and is a member of the Education, Intergovernmental Relations and Redistricting committees. Most recently, Shapiro was appointed to serve on the Joint Select Committee on School Finance and the Governor's Task Force on Homeland Security.  Her most notable work this session was passage of landmark legislation creating the "Texas Mobility Fund," an innovative tool that will allow the state to issue bonds for transportation projects. In 1995 and 1997, Ashley's Laws became another career-defining series of bills for Shapiro. These laws have improved the way our state adjudicates, punishes and tracks sex offenders. Shapiro is currently president of her own advertising and public relations agency, Shapiro & Company.

Texas is fortunate to have Shapiro representing us, and NAWBO is pleased to have her share her story with you.
Join us on January 14th and become inspired. See how you, too, can make a difference!
